Historical Dictionary of Leibniz's Philosophy (Historical Dictionaries of Religions, Philosophies and Movements).

5:49 AM. Page i. Historical dictionaries of religions, philosophies, and . The dictionary is about Leibniz’s philosophy and not about Leibnizianism

The dictionary is about Leibniz’s philosophy and not about Leibnizianism. We have entries on earlier philosophers because we have judged them to be relevant to understanding Leibniz’s philosophy. We decided, partly because of limitations of space, not to have entries on later philosophers. We have, however, gone beyond Leibniz’s lifetime in the chronology, outlining the history of the posthumous publication of Leibniz’s works.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646–1716) was one of the first Modern philosophers, and as such, one of the most significant. His contributions were often pathbreaking and his imprint still remains on fields such as logic, mathematics, science, international law, and ethics. While publishing relatively little during his life, he was in regular correspondence with important philosophers and even political leaders. The Historical Dictionary of Leibniz's Philosophy sheds light not only on his philosophical thought but also the impact it had on the thinking of his contemporaries

The Historical Dictionaries are a series of encyclopedic dictionaries published by Rowman & Littlefield that runs to hundreds of volumes. The first volumes in the series were published by Scarecrow Press from 1967 and were organised by country and continent, but the series has since expanded into a wide range of cultural and political topics. The dictionaries are arranged using a common structure and most have a single author. They seek to provide the historical context for current events.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) was one of the first Modern philosophers, and as such, one of the most significant. His contributions were often pathbreaking and his imprint still remains on fields such as logic, mathematics, science, international law, and ethics. While publishing relatively little during his life, he was in regular correspondence with important philosophers and even political leaders. The Historical Dictionary of Leibniz's Philosophy sheds light not only on his philosophical thought but also the impact it had on the thinking of his contemporaries. They, and he, are described in numerous cross-referenced dictionary entries. Also included are other entries that present his writings, explain his concepts, and trace his action in specific fields. The introduction sums much of this up and―along with the bibliography―provides a strong foundation for further study.
