First of all, I know this is an older edition. Many of these problems were fixed in the following 7 editions. Secondly, I do know textbooks aren't really written to be enjoyable.
WITH THAT SAID!!
Pay the extra or a later edition. The most recently edition just pulls you through. I bought this one because it was $50 cheaper. It's awful. It is SO POORLY WRITTEN. The sentence structure is janky at best. It actually gave me a headache to read this. I wish I had sucked it up and bought the newer one sooner.
One of my classmates read me a passage from the newest edition and I went straight to the student bookstore to buy it. The most recent edition is SO MUCH EASIER TO READ. This edition is just clumsy.

Unlike most textbooks, I actually look forward to reading this book. The chapters are filled with maps and small tidbits of history that are very intriguing. The chapters are well organized and offer the information without the preaching of morals. Also, this textbook does not shy away from giving the history from the angle of African Americans and Native Americans. Unlike traditional history textbooks this one encompasses a large amount of history, specifically details of darker times in American history. Overall, good text book!

not bad but leaves out other things that happen in the US The Wright Brothers for one

My husband used this for a history text book and learned quite a bit. We bought it used. Although there is some curl to the corners it doesn't diminish the use of the book.

Very in depth look at a variety of times for north America. Very good buy. I paid $4. Somewhat confusing in some parts.

This textbook is great! It is straight forward American history. At the begining of each chapter there is a short story of a persons life and work for that time period. It helps the reader get a better understanding of why and how America is what it is today.
I needed it for a history class so I rented it. It was a little banged up but it was also very inexpensive.
