I passed this class and am now going to EMT this fall with the help of this book. A lot of things in this older edition book are pretty outdated, for example, you don't perform CPR on water if a patient is floating. If your instructor is competent, he should be able to inform you on what is outdated and what's not to you.

I bought my EMT (Prehospital Emergency Care 9th and 10th editions)book, and this book seems to be the solid foundation of the course. It feels like 80% of what you learn in this class, you'll learn in EMT. Th main difference is that EMT is more in depth, however, this book certainly makes studying EMT a lot more bearable. I HIGHLY recommend taking an EMR course before taking an EMT course, if at all possible. Like I said, the skills you learn as an EMR and as an EMT are basically the same. Many institutions don't offer EMR courses, or don't require an EMR card to take an EMT-B class.

The contents of this book goes over:
EMS history
Basic anatomy and physiology
CPR and AEDs
and much more

SCAM WARNING!!! I bought this textbook new because they publishers make a big deal out of the great online promo code you get. HOWEVER, this is NOT the promo code that gives you access to JBLearning NAVIGATE. It is a promo code to a different website. I still had to pay about $75 for access to NAVIGATE.

So do not buy this textbook new for any reason.

As for the products themselves, they were mediocre. The textbook did a decent job explaining concepts, but sometimes the organization and prioritization was confusing. The quizzes on Navigate were poorly designed. They tested your ability to go into the textbook and find the exact sentence the question was based on, but did not test your actual understanding of the topic.

The material in the book was good but this book when it came was horrible! it looked like someone dropped it in a pool and held a blow dryer to it pages were stuck together but it worked

Helped my pass the EMT pre-test to get into the class. Pretty basic, but good info

The book, if bought new, comes with an online access code which you can register on their site and then take quizzes and use a lot of other helpful study methods. If bought used, that code may not work.

The text is the standard EMR text book which is exactly what I needed to tutor a student taking the EMR course. The quality of the used book was less than it stated in the Amazon profile. Many pages were stuck together and torn. It also seems to be poorly organized and have a wordy writing style.
Poorly organized, with imprecise descriptions of conditions and treatment. I hope they improve future editions.
