I am the proud owner of a signed copy, as I have had the pleasure of Johns friendship since 1984. Although this book is really about hunting big old trophy deer, the advice and information therein still stands good for any hunter of whitetail or to be honest any deer species. I class myself as pretty experienced in that field but on first reading it back in 1985 I learned one or two tricks which have paid off in subsequent hunts.

It has also been introduced to New Zealand, Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, the Bahamas, the Lesser Antilles, and some countries in Europe, such as the Czech Republic, Finland, Romania, Serbia, Germany, and France. In the Americas, it is the most widely distributed wild ungulate.

Understanding where, why, and when whitetails move is a critical key to the successful hunt.

John Wooters was a Texas Treasure, and his works will live on as a legacy - something not that common with outdoor writers. For Texans, John Wooters was THE expert on deer hunting in our state, but his experience extended to other states, and other countries as well. His observations on whitetail habits are borne out by years of data collection as well as hunting, and ANY deer hunter should be able to learn something from his writings. In addition, the color photographs of deer in this volume alone are worth the purchase price!

I am a huge fan of John Wooters. I followed him for ten or fifteen years as he wrote in various hunting magazines. This book is based on observations by John and his friends on his hunting ranch is south Texas. It is very informative and covers a lot of details about whitetail deer. It is probably a great book for beginners but I was a little disappointed as a veteran hunter. It is still a great read for any whitetail deer hunter.
