NICOLAS ROCHE was born in 1984 and became a professional cyclist in 2004 with the Cofidis team. Inside the Peloton was a very good book, I enjoyed the reading and found it to be a page turner (not hard to stay focused).
NICOLAS ROCHE was born in 1984 and became a professional cyclist in 2004 with the Cofidis team. After two years with Crédit Agricole, he joined AG2R-La Mondiale in 2009 and is now the team leader. What I liked best, besides all the very interesting information, was that I feel like I really got to know the author, Nicolas Roche, better through my reading (a rider I did not know much of anything about). I will warn that this book does contain some brief expletives, but I would not say excessively.
Nicolas Roche has a famous surname to all fans of cycling. Now a major contender for a podium finish in a grand tour, in the award-winning Inside the Peloton Nicolas tells in full the story of life as a professional cyclist and of the remarkable events that have brought him this far. The son of legendary Irish and World Champion Stephen Roche, Nicolas had to fight to make it as a professional and even harder to make his mark as his own man in this toughest of competitive sports. His rise up the ranks has been meteoric, with top 15 finishes in both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España, but his attitude to his chosen profession has remained undimmed.

At the start of the book, he tells of how his parents met and all about his Dad’s success. He talks about growing up and how close he is to his sister, Christel. Nicholas didn’t have the easiest childhood, changing from Irish to French schools, as his family were constantly on the move. He was mad into soccer and rugby but tore a ligament in 1998 which ended those sports, but started his cycling career.
