by Bob Gates, an inspiring story of American achievement. Soft cover, 320 pages, over 250 photos both black & white and color. A valuable addition to understanding racing's past. Vukovich uniquely captured America's fancy during a time when the Indy 500 was this country's only truly great race. Killed four years before the first Daytona 500, at a time of Vuky's death simply participating in the Indy 500 was the pinnacle of many driver's careers. Winning the event was the ultimate mostorsports achievment. He was well on his way to being the first man to win it for a third consecutive time when he lost his life in a horrid multi-car crash on the backstretch in which he was an innocent victim.

I have enjoyed reading about the rough and tough times of motor racing when Driver's really had to fight and muscle there way around the old dirt tracks.
