Much-recommended by new mothers, this is the only book you'll need for the best baby advice Refreshingly honest, openly frank and candidly blunt, this book has been written by a mother for other mothers. It oozes with warm fuzzies, it reeks of mumsy terms, it exudes realism in every paragraph and it is refreshing in its guiltless honesty. Modern first-time mothers are often alone - devoid of once traditional motherhood knowledge and practical support. Often previously self-confident women find themselves inconceivably isolated, hopelessly fumbling over everyday mothering tasks, enduring torturous levels of sleep deprivation, feeling desperately despondent and physiologically aching and leaking everywhere. This book provides supportive, caring advice - one mum to another - while at the same time serving as an encyclopaedic medical reference regarding the mother and baby. Checked thoroughly by medical professionals, this book is a unique blend, like having access to a kind and gentle GP as well as to all the gems of wisdom of years of mothers' coffee groups. This title clearly and compassionately explains the ups as well as the downs which are perfectly normal aspects of giving birth and mothering in today's society.

Brilliant book! I have a LOT of baby books and I felt like this book was pretty blunt and to the point which is how I like my information delivered! I found the post-birth sections especially helpful, as a FTM its hard to know what to expect and I feel more informed after reading this!

This book has some good advice and covers a wide range of topics. For example, the advice on your relationships and social life after a baby is all very practical and helps to keep everything in perspective. There is an annex with a monthly guide on the changes to expect in your baby, which is excellent. However, the chapter on sleeping is brutal (a point acknowledged by the author) and is not for everyone. Crying it out might work for some babies, but it simply won't be for everyone. And this is the book's major weakness that it focuses far too much on the author's own experiences and preferences, rather than providing options. Nevertheless, the book is a good read and a valuable reference on some points, but do not make it your only resource.

From conception right through to 12 months old... This book never left our coffee table in hard copy for our first son and is still a fabulous reference with number two son via my phone and iPad. Sane, rational advice that even sleep deprived parents can understand, digest and implement with success... Kathy Fray, Mum Genius..!

This is a great informative book. However, the editing of this book into an e-book leaves a lot to be desired. Whole passages missing, and paragraphs muddled up. I can be reading one section, then it jumps to something else, then a page or two later the writing randomly jumps back to where it cut off pages before.
If you want to read this book I would recommend buying the hard copy.

super practical and so helpful! birthing books can be such an overwhelming jumble of conflicting information. Kathy has done her research and helps to sift through a lot and condense it to provide the expecting mom with something solid and practical to go on.
