This book is so funny. The writer really put his quirkiness into the book, which made it a joy to flip through. Definitely a good investment if you like the 70s style, or just want a good coffee table book.

The decade that style forgot? Written by –. Jess N. Goldberg in his book, ‘The Collectible 70s’, home decor of the 1970s simply absorbed the imagery popular with the ‘hippie’ movement and made it mainstream-friendly. Psychedelic floral prints, for example, became the Victoriana-inspired Laura Ashley motif that still appeals to the masses of today.

Arguably, the ‘70s had more style than any decade in the last hundred years. Just because it’s a style that no longer appeals or is dated doesn’t mean it wasn’t stylish. It means precisely the opposite. There are more aspects of style identifiable from that decade than any others. I’m not going to run through all the things that are emblematic of the ‘70s but it’s a very long list. A few off the top of my head: feathered hair, platform shoes, disco, roller disco, aviator shades, chest-warmer ties, porno staches and kung fu fighting. If the ‘70s were not such a stylish era, movies like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy would not be nearly as funny. Related QuestionsMore Answers Below.

In his book 70s House, David Heathcote argues that the decade was a significant watershed for interior domestic design, marking the transition from the Modernist 60s to an era in which style and the individualistic ethos of fashion design became the guiding principles. Eco-Tripping Back to Nature 70s style was greatly influenced by the back-to-nature movement, which arose from both a hippie rejection of consumerism and materialism and a renewed environmentalism following the 1973 oil crisis, according to Luytens and Hislop.

Like that decade's cool remedy to what came before, the brash aesthetic of the 1970s wasn't created in a vacuum, as David Netto and Tom Delavan write in The New York Times Style Magazine: "In contrast to the pared-down discipline of mid-century style, the '70s were sensual and decadent. People were unafraid to take risks. The furniture was made for hanging out, lounging or sex - activities infinitely more tempting than what was going on in the places where postwar design made its mark: schools, offices and hospitals.

THE 70S: THE DECADE THAT STYLE FORGOT is a fun book filled with pictures on the garish styles that were the 70s. There's color photos of home furnishings and decor, and clothes for both men and women.

There's also funny commentary by the author and the book is hard cover with a dust jacket and measures 5.25" x 7.5".

Reason for only 4-stars is because the layout obscures some of the photographs when they really should have been full page.

Another good book is 70s Fashion: Vintage Fashion and Beauty Ads (Icons) and 60s Fashion: Vintage Fashion and Beauty Ads (Taschen Icon Series) (French and German Edition) both mini-books with full page color photos.
