Very thoughtfully written with clear and concise methods of doing fine mixed media art. Good explanations / ways of thinking about composition, color and subject matter. Easy to read, holds my interest page after page. I love the balance the artist strikes between planning a painting and letting magic happen through the use of texture, limited palette and collage, allowing and encouraging lucky mistakes. This is a great book for artists who want to take their training wheels off. Tons of great artwork throughout by the artist Mike Bernard. My only disappointment is that the printing or photography on some of the pages isn't as sharp and clear as it could be to show off the art. I give it a five because the rest makes up for it.

Really great book, ordered app version and planning to buy hardcover. Author is a great artist, I`m a big fan, and he offers an insight into his creative process, which i find the most interesting. Very helpful and pleasure to read. No step by step and materials info, which is everywhere the same. This is not a guide for beginners on how to paint, its about how to see as an artist.

I absolutely fell in love with Mike's creativity. His paintings must be incredibly awesome when seen in person. Having read the book from cover-to-cover and being locked in structure myself, I am looking forward to beginning some new work of my own following Mike's instructions and inspiration. Thank you, Mike, for this beautiful book.

Just sorry that this is his only book so far. Love Michel's work.

As a mixed media artist, I enjoy looking at other artists work for inspiration and to see how they express themselves. So much mixed media work is cutsie. This work is impressionistic with a twist. I have been extremely inspired by the style and how the artist interprets plein air painting with mixed media. I definitely recommend this for someone looking to expand their boundaries in art and yet be taken seriously.
