Finally, a summary of recent work on vocabulary testing is presented.

The book overviews a wide range of vocabulary research methodologies, and offers practical advice on how to carry out valid and reliable research on first and second language vocabulary. It includes a Resources section which outlines the lexical tests, corpora, software, internet sites, and other resources available to vocabulary researchers.

Researching Vocabulary is an outstanding book even for those of us who work with, or have an interest in vocabulary but do not plan to do research. The book seems to cover the key issues. This is not, however, an introductory book. Make it the second book you read on the subject. Schmitt says that you need to know the basics when it comes to statistics, and that is surely the case if you are a graduate student planning to do research. If not, the book is written clearly enough for you to get the idea without doing the math.

I found this book to be immensely helpful back in 2010 when I purchased it. In addition to the wealth of information on vocabulary research in SLA, it also provides lists of useful resources.
