I do not know about you, but I did not get much instruction in grammar in school and it has been a frustration to me, not in speaking, but in writing. My husband on the other hand, had it in heavy doses, so he is always correcting my sentence structures. I purchased this book in hopes of better understanding sentence structure and I found it to be very helpful. Where was this book when I was in elementary school?

I like it, but you must have a grasp of grammar before starting it.

This is an excellent resource for younger students who are learning grammar. Further, it's great for those of us who want to brush up on long-forgotten grammar skills. Its examples, descriptions and diagrams are very organized and clear.

Had to buy a second copy because the first copy was written in with pen.

Good for teaching my students the parts of speech.

I use this book with my 8th graders. About 10 minutes at the beginning of class 2-3 times per week is perfect. It has just enough practice to keep kids on track without boring them, and the lessons are short and lead directly into writing instruction based on these concepts. I do switch it up and put Linking Verbs (the language used is confusing for this, so I replace the "linking verb complement" with Linking Verb) before the written expression, and it works great. The lessons and practice are simple enough that the kids are successful, too, which provides them with a sense of success. I get through all the sentence parts in the first half of the year, and then move into complex sentences and subordinate and coordinating conjunctions, and it all make sense and the kids recognize how knowing grammar can improve the complexity of their writing.

Mrs. Schaefer was my English teacher in Junior High. We all groaned through her lessons on diagramming sentences until we got to college and were able to kick butt in grammar, writing and foreign languages. As a child, I viewed her lessons as clear and concise; I just would have rather been outdoors climbing a tree. As a college student, I was able to succeed in my writing classes and foreign language classes (do you know how many people do not know how to find the direct object?). As an adult, I am using her books in my home school class. They are a treasure, and I was blessed to have her as my teacher.

Students in my high school English classes are finally getting a grip on syntax and diagramming with the step-by-step progression starting with the basics and moving on, one additional element at a time.
This book has been the most efficient and straightforward way I've found to teach and reteach grammar to my students. I used a co-worker's so frequently that I broke down and bought my own!
