This book does contain some useful information, but it doesn't go far enough. To get copyediting jobs, the book advises, write a simple introductory business letter to the business you want to work for. That's all the information it gives! When other books talk about querying magazines or book publishers, they give specifics on exactly what the letter should contain, how many paragraphs, what not to include, who to address it to, etc. This book gives no information at all. Should the letter be like a job application cover letter, a query to a magazine, a book query? The book never says, and I suspect it's because the author doesn't know and was too lazy to bother finding out.

And the book is absolutely rife with copyediting and proofreading errors. That raises red flags right there. If I can copyedit better than a book that covers copyediting, then what use is the book to me?

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found this book very helpful. It covered an array of freelancing gigs, not just copywriting or article writing. This may be why the author didn't go into depth with tips like cover letter strategy.
If you're looking for writing tips or query advice, it's not the book for you. There are dozens of other books (e.g. Peter Bowerman's The Well-Fed Writer for copywriters) that offer better advice on more targeted forms of freelancing.

But if you're just getting into freelance writing and wondering where to start, this book touches on everything from how to obtain a tax ID number to how to sell prewritten articles as a form of ecommerce. It even lists websites where you can outsource your talents. It's really about the business of writing.
The author's bio on this page includes the words "I also writing" another book. Do we feel sure that we should place our confidence in him or his advice to proofreaders, copywriters, copyeditors, and others? Hmmm .... Heal thyself, physician.
