Meditation, karma, Zen, Tantra, Nirvana - these are some of the many Buddhist ideas that have entered our Western popular idiom, usually inappropriately and half-baked. What is the truth of Buddhism, its history and variety of practices? This vast and complex non-theistic religion is woven into the fabric of Asian civilizations, from India to the Himalayan regions, China, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and elsewhere. This book describes the life and teachings of the Buddha, but it also shows that enlightenment is a matter of experiencing the truth individually and by inspiration which is passed from teacher to student. The book illuminates this process through a rich legacy of stories and explains the practices of meditation, Taoism and Zen. It goes on to describe the role of Buddhism in modern Asia and its growing influence on Western thought.

The book might be worth reading but I had difficulty reading the small print cartoon balloons in the kindle version.

This is a great publisher, check out their extensive catalog of wonderful graphic guides that reign in all sorts of complicated systems of thought.

Need to Cram for a GE class in Buddhism? This book will give you a good start with nearly instant understanding. Excellent but simple line drawings. Fairly entertaining too, if you have a passing knowledge of the philosophy already.

I love this book! It is full of great info and history, and it is presented in a fun easy to read and understand comic-booky format. I had already owned a copy of this book and lent it out to a friend, the book subsequently got lent out to another person and another. needles to say I never got it back and was disappointed when the book store no longer carried it, so I am glad to have found a new copy here on amazon!

Very interesting...if at all interested buy it. Gives great insight. Love how the early monks would tell nonsense riddles that make sense if you "get it"

good book
The text in the drawings is so small I can't read it even on a large iPad Pro. Yes I know that I can enlarge the images, but it is too much trouble. I have tons of books waiting to be read and I don't want to spend time tapping and scaling every single one of the images in this book. I hope the author would consider re-making the drawings similar to Randall Munroe's What If?: Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions, where I can read the text in the drawing comfortably even on an iPhone.

I may revisit this title and update my rating if this issue is resolved.
