This book wisely explains the ancient, and therefore sometimes obscure, Rule of St. Benedict. Its translation of the original text for modern readers, by relating the practical Rule to the timeless values underlying it, is helpful. I will come back and edit this at some point, after I have finished the entire book, and update it on a review of the actual content of the book itself. However at this point I felt a general "warning" was worth posting.

The formatting issues within the Kindle version make it nearly impossible to read. Between the spacing issues, missing letters, and character mistranslations, it's a real nightmare trying to decipher a good bit of what is being said. I am forever thankful that I picked this up when it was free. If I'd have paid the $6.99 list price, you can bet I'd be very upset at this point.

Until it's updated with fixed formatting, I wouldn't suggest anyone spend money on this. It's certainly not worth it.

The Kindle edition has some serious formatting problems When the book apparently was scanned, no one checked to see if the format was correct. So, many MANY letters or words are replaced with random symbols, and in some cased very difficult to interpret what the letters/words are. It occurs frequently enough to make this reading material difficult, and in particular when you are trying to concentrate on what it says, then you have to stop and figure out what was actually written. Very distracting, especially from what could have been an excellent book.

Note: This is strictly a review for the Kindle version of the book and not a discussion of the material as it is presented.

The formatting of the book is just plain awful. There are several letters missing, symbols appear in areas all over the book in lieu of letters. One particularly annoying thing that I noticed was that whenever the letters "fi" should be present in a word, it is appears as a registered trademark symbol. This is just one of the many issues not to mention several sentences that do not have spaces after punctuation and various other readability issues.

It's sad because the material in the printed book itself is good so I wanted an electronic copy that I could take with me and read while travelling. However, this current electronic copy is not a good alternative to fit the bill.

I read this cover to cover from the library first and then bought my own copy. It is that good!! Lots of useful information written in an easy to understand way.
The book arrived sooner than expected and it was in excellent condition. I would definitely use this seller again.
