The true character of the loveliness that speaks for God is always unnoticed by the one possessing that quality. The life of Abraham is an illustration of two things: of unreserved surrender to God, and of God’s complete possession of a child of His for His own highest end. Not Knowing Whither, 901 R. Oswald Chambers: Abandoned to God, winner of the Evangelical Christian Publishers' Association Gold Medallion for biography. Oswald Chambers was a man for all time. His mind was the mind of Christ and so his words are compelling because they reflect the thoughts of our Savior. I am not the first to say that no book outside the Bible has influenced me as much as My Utmost for His Highest. David and his wife, Luann, have four daughters and live in Colorado.

The Only Possible Argument in Support of a Demonstration of the Existence of God (German: Der einzig mögliche Beweisgrund zu einer Demonstration des Daseins Gottes) is a book by Immanuel Kant, published in 1763, in the earlier period of his philosophy which he later saw as "dogmatic slumber". In it, Kant questions both the ontological argument for God (as proposed by Saint Anselm) and the argument from design.

If God cannot prevent the suffering necessary to produce any benefit, God can prevent a supposed benefit when the suffering cost cannot be justified. It is hard to imagine how the Holocaust did more to build character than occurrences with a greatly lessened threat of injury or death. If extreme agony is necessary to achieve the wonderful reward of a eternal union with God that compensates for the terrible suffering, then those of us who do not experience such agony have been unjustly treated and must pray for horrendous agony.

I bought this for a friend after reading my copy of the 1975 (I think) edition with the pages turning yellow. It's like medicine. Everyone who struggles with the idea that God is a God of love should read this. Excellent Biblical perspective on how God's love can be known even in the painful experiences of life. Why God's love isn't obvious on the basis of casual observation. Impossible to understand without faith in Jesus Christ.
