Another great story!! I love how this story has unexpected twists and it is better than I thought it would be. Worth reading.

I liked that the hero was celibate since at least before meeting Josie, the heroine. Conan stated that he had not had a 'woman in a long time" and he had only known Josie a couple of months before they got married. The hero not smex OW after meeting the heroine is something that I always want. It is not unusual in older Harlequin romances such as this one that the hero is not celibate until after being a couple and/or having smex with the heroine. Here Josie was with his brother (once) while he was with no one else. I also liked that he was head over heals in love with her even when she was with his brother. At no time did he fight his feelings for her.

I did not like that there was so much miscommunication, which is also too common in romance books, that kept them from being together. If they only spoke to each other then the OW would not been able to cause such problems in their relationship. It got really old really fast and made the story drag. Also it was at least over 50% mark before the heroine had amnesia. That was disappointing as based on the description I expected it to happen a lot sooner. They did not get together until after that happened and therefore it hindered the romance. In addition, there was no chemistry between them and smex scenes were lacking.

The first time Conan laid eyes on Josie he knew she was the one for him. The second time he saw her was in the aftermath of her lovemaking with his brother Charles. When Charles dies and Conan finds out that Josie is pregnant, he offers her a marriage of convenience, despite the fact that he desperately wants more. In a fortuitous turn of events, though, Josie has an accident and hits her head, giving her amnesia. When she returns home with Conan, she naturally assumes that their marriage is one based on love and passion...

Josie a virgin slept with Charles at a party because she thought she was in love with him and that he was beautiful. She later finds out she was pregnant and Charles had died so she marries Charles' brother Conan who really loves Josie. I don't like reading romance books where a woman is pregnant and the brother of the father to be marries the woman because the father to be dies or didn't give a damn. Life is not like that. Please give me a break this book was written in 1999 there is something called birth control. She didn't have to marry him!!!. If she can easily sleep with a man twice her age just because he is handsome then, she deserves to be responsible for her stupid mistake. Sorry but this did not do anything for me.

I enjoyed this story ... yes, I can agree with the previous reviewer that the "brother takes the real father's place" stories can get old quickly, but Jacqueline Baird brings depth to these characters and made the story better than average, thus I rate it four stars and recommend.
