This book is definitely one of the best books I have ever read. Very sweet story, typical Richard Paul Evans ending. Sep 28, 2008 Heather rated it really liked it.

This is where we leave the river, Paul shouted back, moving toward the boat’s bow. We have a short hike through the jungle. On the other side is Lake Huitoto. From there it’s forty-five minutes to Makisapa Lodge. The men reached the boat and pulled it tight to the shore, securing it with ropes. The cardboard box was lifted over the side.

Richard Paul Evans Has Something For Every Reader! I heard about the new book .

Richard Paul Evans Has Something For Every Reader! I heard about the new book, "Grace" by Richard Paul Evans on the Glenn Beck Show. I bought it, read it, and fell in love with his style of writing. They are very moralistic books, where in the end, "Love Wins". This was an excellent book and in fact, every book written by Richard Paul Evans, in my opinion is outstanding and uplifting! While reading this book, it was as if I knew what the next page was going to say without even reading it. Everything was just way to perfect. Every problem the characters encountered was still so perfect that it didn't even create any suspense, but rather put off the inevitable perfect ending. (Not like that's really a spoiler.)

I read Richard Paul Evans' The Walk books, and I loved them... I can't wait for the next one to come out. What I love about these books, is that he provides interesting information, a variety of characters in a variety of circumstances, which brought them to life and made the events and individuals seem real. My husband, who also read The Walk book after I recommended it to him, even looked up at one point during his reading and asked if it was based on a true story.

Therefore, I thought I would like other books by Richard Paul Evans as well. However, the characters in The Sunflower are very flat, one-dimensional characters. It's impossible to imagine them as real people. The story line is flat as well, with no real building of action or turning points. I think if the entire story had been told from the doctor's perspective, it would have produced a more believable plot and we might have seen him develop as a dynamic character.

The only reason I gave this story two stars instead of one, is because of my own personal philosophy about not saying "hate." (Next to the one star rating it say, "I hate it.") I don't wish that I would have never read it, and I've definitely read worse. However, I don't believe it was worth the money at all. If it would have been one dollar, I might have enjoyed it for the cheap book that it is.

Save your money on this one.

In all honesty, I guess I would have to say the story didn't really have a strong impact on me, because it's only been about three weeks since I finished it, and I can't remember a whole lot about it. I do remember it appeared that the author put himself into the story in the beginning to set the tone, and the fact that his descriptions of the landscape are so vivid, one would assume he had to have been there. It's a typical romance type novel, however, with a "they lived happily ever after" ending. The kind of endings that I like, by the way.

If I remember, there were a few instances where there were some POV problems with author slipping from third person to first person, or vice-versa, I don't really remember which. All in all, however, It's a touching story well worth the time to read.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting much when I read this book. It is definitely a book a female audience might appreciate more than a male one, but it's a surprisingly romantic and sincere novel just the same. It was a page turner, and it allows the reader to escape into the lives of people living a selfless lifestyle in quite a raw environment. I enjoyed the escapism I experienced while reading it. It made me want to pack my suitcase and have an adventure.

This book read a bit like a romantic movie. It had everything from adventure to little kids to illness to a hot man who selflessly dedicates his life to helping children and, of course, to love. That being said, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy, entertaining read with a bit of depth to make the story and characters a bit more well-rounded and fleshed out rather than 2-dimensional stereotypes. It was a bit of an obvious story-line, but sometimes I am in the mood for obvious told in a different way. The author succeeded in doing that.

This is another wonderful story!! There isn't anything that I didn't like about it - I loved everything about it. The story grips your heart and doesn't let go. I was in tears at the end but they were happy tears. Plus Richard Paul Evans' books are completely clean. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a compelling story that will completely captivate them.

I have been introduced to the books written by Richard Paul Evans and can only say it doesn't matter which book you choose to read, you won't be disappointed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have. This book was given as a Christmas gift to my sister-in-law this year and when I spoke to my brother about it, he said she started reading it immediately upon receipt and was already half way through the day after receiving it.

One of my favorite books ever!
Richard Paul Evans is an excellent author that is able to tell a story in a way that grabs your attention so you cant put the book down.
This book tells the story of a man's life mission to an orphanage in Peru. It is a great story of love and adventure.

Richard Paul Evans is one of my favorite authors. I've read every one of his novels and always look forward to his next book. I was a little late in getting "The Sunflower," instead reading "Finding Noel" and "The Gift" first--both were excellent! Although "The Sunflower" promotes a wonderful cause and is basically a heartwarming story, in my opinion it was dull reading. There was way too much trite, chatty "who cares" dialogue that didn't add to the story and it took endless pages to get to the point. I never do this, but I finally skipped to the last quarter of the book to see if there was any more excitement. And, yes the last part was better and although a bit predictable, had a nice ending. NOTE: Actually I own the hardback but not the large print edition.
Such a great read combining life, with its challenges, romance, intrigue and the sad truth about evil in a he world in this case directed toward the most innocent, children. You won’t be disappointed in this book!
