Yikes, where to start...first of all, remember that this is a previously published book, although I think that even when it was New, the heroine would have been a poor role model. She is landed with her injured guardian...yes, I said guardian. She's 24 and engaged, for heaven's sake! She has a job, which the guardian interferes with. He smokes like a chimney, is overbearing and manipulative, and she is a nitwit who allows it. She was upset that he was in her house, alone. So was her fiance. Did she move to the boyfriend's place? To her aunt's empty house next door? Of course not. She allowed the guy to steamroller right over her. Within the first few pages I was irritated. After the first chapter I was wondering if the author time traveled from the 50s.
