Autotrophic Bacteria book . Start by marking Autotrophic Bacteria (Brock/Springer series in contemporary bioscience) as Want to Read: Want to Read savin. ant to Read. Autotrophic bacteria, those prokaryotes that obtain all carbon required for biosynthesis from inorganic sources, are among the dominant organisms involved in the natural cycling of matter. The formation of iron, sulfur, and limestone deposits, and of oil, coal, and natural gas would not be possible without autotrophic bacteria.

Sulfate-reducers are found in diverse environments ranging from estuaries to geological oil-bearing formations. They have attracted considerable scientific and commercial interest. This interest has increased greatly over the past decade, and this volume presents the first book-length summary of our knowledge of sulfate-reducing bacteria in nearly 10 years.

This book deals with recent information on nitrogen-fixing bacteria which associate with plant roots. The subject emerged only 15 years ago, and has gained tremendous interest and impact because of the increasing need to replace nitrogenous fertilizers, especially in developing countries, where the need for high food production must be based on low input. This book describes in detail the eight new aerobic or microaerobic diazotrophs which occur on and in plant roots and discusses their physiology, ecology and interaction with the plant.
