This book is an introductory linear algebra text. The book seeks to explain and discover the important concepts of linear algebra using well-chosen examples.

The book covers the most important basics of any first course on linear algebra, explaining the algebra of matrices .

The book covers the most important basics of any first course on linear algebra, explaining the algebra of matrices with applications to analytic geometry, systems of linear equations, difference equations and complex numbers. Linear equations are treated via Hermite normal forms which provides a successful and concrete explanation of the notion of linear independence. Another important highlight is the connection between linear mappings and matrices leading to the change of basis theorem which opens the door to the notion of similarity.

Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms (BLAS) is a specification that prescribes a set of low-level routines for performing common linear algebra operations such as vector addition, scalar multiplication, dot products, linear combinations, and matrix multiplication. They are the de facto standard low-level routines for linear algebra libraries; the routines have bindings for both C and Fortran.

We use this book in my Linear Algebra class, and i really dont like it. The book is pretty terse, and doesnt explain things very clearly. Text needs to be re-read several times to understand the concepts. If you can get a more detailed book on the subject with clearer explanations. 11 people found this helpful.

Basic knowledge of vector spaces, bases, matrices and linear maps would be assumed. Module theory is the same thing - vector spaces are just a bit more restricted so you can get sharper theorems. Well - it turns out it’s a LOT more restricted. People often confuse between Serge Lang's other book "Linear Algebra" which is slightly advanced and is not primarily for first timers. Though he clearly mentions this that the "Introduction to Linear Algebra" is a prelude in the preface, but then how many people do read that section. more)Loadin. riginally Answered: What is the best book for learning Linear Algebra?
