Start by marking Social Statistics for a Diverse Society with SPSS . There are quite a few errors in this book, and while seemingly harmless, can confuse someone new to social statistics.

Start by marking Social Statistics for a Diverse Society with SPSS Student Version as Want to Read: Want to Read savin. ant to Read. Explains statistics to even the most math-anxious, inept student (you know, like me). Gentle step by step approach with more emphasis on concept coherence and not necessarily dry formulaic teaching. Definitely worth a read if you're studying this subject and may even be helpful if it's not the text of choice for your class. The step-by-step SPSS demonstrations and following exercises were very helpful, though.

Society, Chava Frankfort-Nachmias and Anna Leon-Guerrero use . She is also the coauthor (with Anna Leon-Guerrero) of Social Statistics for a Diverse Society

An emphasis on SPSS® for Windows (version 1. ) throughout the book, in conjunction with General Social Survey data, introduces one of the most commonly used analytical software packages in the field. This book takes a VERY painful subject and boils it down into understandable bits that are much easier to swallow than you would expect from a statistics textbook.
I've taken dense math classes before - and had terrible books that treat the material as dense and incomprehensible (which makes the class even worse, obviously).
This book, however, approaches the dense and incomprehensible material in a way that shows they understand how horrible the material is for most students who are being required to take a statistics class. They boil the stuff down so you actually get the concepts instead of just cramming into your head insane statistics formulas that look like something you need a 205 IQ to understand. You still need the formulas, but you walk away understanding why. A hint for students - put the formulas into an excel spreadsheet so you don't need to memorize them, and then hope you have a professor who encourages you to do so so you can use Excel when you take your tests.

I HATE this book but more so because I hate statistics and my professor didn’t “teach” us the subject matter. However, my opinion on that should NOT effect their review. I must give it 4 stars because it was easy to read, highlighted vocabulary, examples of all problems, and answers in the back of the book.

I have dreaded taking statistics, and this textbook was required. However, I am glad that the professor chose this textbook. The authors realize that statistics, or math for that matter, does not come easy for a portion of the students. It is well written and gives the reader confidence that they are competent to succeed.

I could't give the book below four stars because it IS a good introductory book, with elaborate examples and clear explanations. My problem with the book was that is was too basic for my expectation. So before purchasing, you must know that the book is an absolute introductory course which starts by basics and takes you only a few steps ahead. Another introductory book that I recommend instead is Social Statistics: The Basics and Beyond by Thomas Linneman, which starts on the same level but takes things a lot further ahead, in case that is what you need as well.

The formatting of this book is anything but helpful or conducive towards assisting the student to understanding the material. The textbook is like a teacher that is monotone. Simple things such as having each page having the notation to indicate what chapter you are in does not exist. When answering the questions at the end of the chapter it is a difficult task if you are trying to use the textbook to understand and answer the problem. Many typos exist across the textbook, too many. I should have been paid to purchase this textbook. It is fit to be used for a fire or target practice.

I had to get this book for a course and even though I did not use it a lot of the time. I was able to still get a lot of information from it and it came in early.

Have had this book over 2 weeks. Renting this book because I need it for a class, but I really do love it! The way the author explains everything makes it very easy to read. The author also gives very relatable examples for each topic, which helps me get a better understanding about what they are talking about. Have no complaints about this book.
It's been a while since I've taken statistics, so when I had to take it for grad school I was nervous. I was especially nervous that the text was going to be so boring I wouldn't be able to concentrate while reading it. Luckily, that was not the case. This text was incredibly informative, and broke down every single thing in a step-by-step fashion spas long as you followed the steps you were sure to be doing it correctly. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is new or rusty at statistics.
