"Comedy nirvana . . . satisfyingly mean and funny."?The New York Post

Nicky Silver, that "strange progeny of a coupling between Neil Simon and Edward Albee" (The New York Times), has cornered the market on deliciously savage family comedies. This intimate and frightening examination of how we cope with loneliness and disappointment delighted audiences on Broadway, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Play.

Nicky Silver’s plays include Pterodactyls (Oppenheimer Award, Kesselring Award, Drama Desk nomination, Outer Critics Circle nomination), The Eros Trilogy, The Food Chain (Outer Critics Circle nomination), Fat Men in Skirts, Fit to Be Tied, The Maiden's Prayer, Free Will and Wanton Lust (Helen Hayes Award), My Marriage to Ernest Borgnine, The Altruists, and Raised in Captivity (Drama Desk nomination, Outer Critics Circle nomination).

This play is as compelling a read as any action novel. The characters are fully formed -- funny, lethal, flawed, sympathetic. I've seen most of Nicky Silver's plays, and this one is as good as it gets.

It was worth buying the copy to read Nicky's preface.

I was honored to see the final performance of Nicky Silver's THE LYONS on Broadway. The first act is seamless, while the second act has a few major stumbles. All the while, the writing is seamless. Even when the play threatens to come apart, Silver's language remains superior to many of his counterparts. I dislike the cover of the book and would have preferred the logo from Broadway.Oh well.

It's a quick read and should really be considered a black comedy. I felt the second act took a hard left. Still a good play worth seeing and if lucky enough performing in.

Wonderful Theatre. Funny and poignant. Will be performing it in February.

I haven't seen this play on stage and had to be content reading it. I enjoyed every page and my laughter woke up my wife more than once.

The Lyons is a play of enormous intrigue. Act I is wrought with ambiguity, and for good reason. Silver never allows his characters to give away too much, or say too little. The opening scene of Act II is where Silver really tears the paint off the wall: his dialogue is coarse, crude, and clever, and he reaches into the darkest depths of the human psyche, bringing to the surface a family in the Lyons not all too unlike the pitch black comedy-drama we all seem to live through from time to time. Read it, you won't be disappointed.

Reading this play reminded me how much I had enjoyed seeing it at the Vineyard Theater last year. Packed with surprises and truly hilarious one-liners, "The Lyons" is honestly one of the best plays I've ever seen. Nicky Silver's dark humor is entertaining right from the opening scene and the writer's talent really shines throughout.
Silver is truly a genius. The Lyons is his best work to date. I laughed. I cried. I sobbed. I laughed til I cried and cried til I laughed. Realistic, touching, and brilliant. What a talent!!!
