The Urban Survivalist Handbook is a preparation guide written to provide valuable information to the reader on how to prepare for any event whether it be Man made or Mother Nature's wrath. When an emergency is upon you the time for preparation has passed and hindsight is always 20/20. As long as there is a will to survive and you have the knowledge then you can survive. You have to now ask yourself a couple of questions. Do you have the knowledge to survive? Do you have the means to survive without water flowing through your tap or power to your home? It may not be the survival of the fittest anymore it just may be the survival of the smartest. To see the future just look to the past, for history always repeats itself. The world has suffered through Recessions, Depressions, Pandemics and Epidemics, Terrorist Attacks, Civil Unrest or Acts of God. These are the things we need to prepare for. If you prepare for the future you will not suffer when the time comes to present it's self. If you don't think that bad things has not happened in America just think about this. September 11th 2001 Terrorist murdered almost 3000 Americans. In 1993, 54 people died and 403,000 people became ill during a two week period after an outbreak of Cryptosporidium in the city's water system of Milwaukee. On August 14th 2003 55 million people were left in the dark without power for days due to an overloaded power grid and a untrimmed tree. These are just a few examples of why we need to be prepared. When I looked to the future and what could happen I decided that I will be prepared. Will you? This book has been updated with new content and edited as of 8/1/2011

The information presented is really good, and he covers many topics. HOWEVER, you have to get past the fact that the author has no clue how to use the "spell check" function on his computer.

I have the Kindle version, and the pictures are all broken into pieces, but you can still "sorta" get the idea.

Overall, I found it to be a worthwhile read, and it will be a very nice book if somebody would take the time to do some proof reading.
  • Nothing personal
Content was okay, nothing really new. However, the high incidence of spelling errors was extremely distracting. Additionally, the lack of a bibliography was disconcerting; no way to verify or investigate topics further.

Awesome book!!! Very good for people new to prepping. Would recommend it to all who don't have their heads in the sand.

This "survival" book is creative and imaginative containing information not traditionally found in other books on the same topic. The author provides detailed suggestions and directions to survive if our society and economy ceases to remain intact. Current world events lead many to believe that, in the future, we may not be able to expect the comforts that we enjoy today. Mr. Painter has carefully researched and prepared for solutions to critical problems such as: what do we do without food, electricty, water, sewer and other everyday comforts we sometimes take for granted? His solutions are particularly relevant to living in the southwest where we experience water shortages and extremely high temperatures in the summer. This is a book to keep in a reference library. It may prove to be life-sustaining!

I read this book and once I got done I then read it again. This book is perfect for what is happening in the world today. I would recommend this book to everyone. At some time in your life the power grid will go down for a day or even a week due to an unforeseen circumstance. And one day your water may get contaminated and the city will ask you to boil your water if it is still coming out of the tap. This book covers all of that. Now if Society fails the book also covers that. This book is for everyone.

not worth the money. Not sure how many pages the book has. Expected a full book length. This is more of a pamphlet and poorly written at that.

This book is a must have for anyone who hopes to survive a lifestyle that is different from what we are used to today. Great advice on supplies that one should have on hand in case of a failure of any of our modern infrastructures. The author provides suggestions as to how to survive without modern technology from a matter of weeks up to the long haul. Easy to read and understand. Some grammer and spelling issues, but definately understandable. Not a fancy book, but very practical. Helped me to prepare for the "just-in-case".
This is not your typical cut and paste guide book. The author did his homework and you can tell he has a passion for the topic. This book was well written and easy to understand. The author takes takes a practical look at trying to prepare you and your family for the worst case scenario. When I first read the book I finished the last page and turned to the front and read it again!!! You will not be disappointed!
