This was my third book of the writer. First I read Kosher Lust, which was ok to begin Boatech's philosphy, but I ended the book with lots of questions. Then I read Kosher Sutra, which was truly amazing, especially the last part. Completely taken by the excitement of that book, I read this one: Kosher Sex, hoping to find more details on the intimate part of the relationships. However, the book is full of views on all the matters surrounding the concept of marriage, like children etc. It was more like a marriage counseling book. Out of the three, I definitely recommend Kosher Sutra, which deals with real strong substance surrounding the sexual aspects of the relationships. I personally did not get carried away by reading Kosher Sex, as much as I did with Kosher Sutra, which in my opinion is a definite reading for all humans

I recommend this book for both Jew and Gentile, Jew and Christian. Rabbi Boteach in this well written, short, sharp and to the point work exorcises monotony from monogomy. He clearly spells out why sex is not only a carnal event but a religious obligation. A holy undertaking upon which the success of your marraige is built. Addressing much repeated notions often voiced by this age's most popular relationship gurus, Rabbi Boteach presents how warped popular culture's notions on sex are. Great Questions he answers:

1) What is the most/only romantic thing a guy or girl can do in this day and age?
2) Can sex be used as a make-up tool when quarreling?
3) Is communication the most important thing in a relationship?
4) Are sex toys kosher?
5) Why we are different from other sexual animals?
6) Is being vulnerable good?
7) How does the bible view sex and the relationship between husband and wife?

...AMONGST OTHERS...

In this enlightening book Rabbi Boteach opens the gates to heavens library SECTION SEX! A must read for single and married couples alike. You cannot possibly read this book any sooner. 5 Stars!

My wife and I read this book together side by side and it was able to spark some very intelligent, fun and sometimes provocative conversations. I think Shmuley Boteach accomplished what he set out to do in this piece of inspiring text!

Shmuley Boteach has done it again with Kosher Sex. I discovered this book glancing at a friends library. Great book to be reading in shul to get someone's attention!

All jokes aside, Kosher Sex challenges today's 'over-sexualized' attitude toward intimacy and infuses a razor sharp clarity applicable to Jew and non-Jew, religious or secular. I especially recommend this book for baal teshuva, converts, and adolescents.

Kosher Sex: A Recipe for Passion and Intimacy by Shmuley Boteach is by turns interesting, informative, advanced, reactionary and frustrating. I suppose that is what kept me reading a book that otherwise annoyed me.

As an Chasidic rabbi, Boteach, despite his celebrity type exposure and hip language, is very much satisfied with traditional Jewish sex roles, both in and out of the bedroom.

In this book he will offer the majority opinion on a topic: for example, a married Jewish couple can make love any way they wish. He endorses this mainstream religious Jewish opinion, but then explains why he thinks the missionary position is the better. This is a common trend in this book. Alternatives within the tradition are offered, but not explored. Tradition narrowly conceived is always the high road for Boteach.

Boteach is not a post-modern Jew. He believes the old ways, tweaked here and there for modernity, are just fine. So we Jews who struggle with sex in a complicated, post-modern world, will find this book, so promising at first, disappointing.

He also engages in some deep seated gender stereotyping, makes comments about staying in difficult relationship which people in such relationships will find repugnant. He means well, but his advice is liable to cause such people, particularly women, much harm.

So, beware of this book. Read it, but do so critically.

Not all of the advice here will be to everyone's taste. But I got several great insights out of it, and it contains solid relationship guidelines.

If I were still doing premarital counseling I would certainly encourage couples to view this and then discuss the ideas.
