This book is way too General. You can get the same or better advice and ideas on the many on-line HD or V-Twin forums. Articles in this book provide good common performance ideas but it fails to provide sufficient details for follow through. More times than not this book refers you to the service manual. Save your money. If you plan on doing mods on your bike on your own then your knowledge base is likely above the level of this book already. Save the money to buy the service manual and search the on-line Harley forums for performance enhancements that you may want to make on your bike.

I liked this book very much and am using it as a guide for the work I am doing on my own 2000 Road Glide. It is nicely organized, printed on high quality paper, and with excellent illustrations. The instructions for the projects it described are very good and easy to follow. You will still want a workshop manual to get you started on some of the major work, as it picks up the project at some point after the initial preparations and removal of items like fairings, gas tank, exhaust systems, etc. have been done. Otherwise, it tracks well with the Harley service manual on the steps that are the same.

I also like that several options for making changes or upgrades are offered for many of the projects, and a nice table gives you an idea of cost, mechanical skill required, and other things you might want to do at the same time you are executing this project. You also get a recommendation of sources for aftermarket parts, often with more than one source indicated.

I highly recommend this book if a) you need to correct a Harley design deficiency; b) want to make a performance upgrade that is not a straightforward change such as a slip-on muffler or air cleaner insert; c) want to make a major change to the engine or drive train. This book now resides on my workshelf and will stay there as long as I own my Twin Cam 88.

I purchased a 2002 Harley FXD Dyna two months ago and wanted a resource for maintenance tips and upgrade performance options. This book fully satisfied all those needs. It has clear descriptions regarding bike care and starts from basics topics (how to change fluids) to medium (re-jetting a CV carb) to advanced (engine balancing). All projects are rated in terms of difficulty.

This book will advance your knowledge of how your bike operates so even if you never intend to take a wrench to your bike, you'll learn which performance upgrades are appropriate for your bike, riding style and wallet. Highly recommended!

If you're planning to do your own work on your bike, this is one of the books will should have. It's not the only one, since you will need your shop manual or a Clymer manual, but it's a great start for novice mechanics. It'll help you select your tools, give you excelent tips and guide you troughout some various projects. Could be longer and with better pictures and diagrams, but it's a very usefull book nevertheless.

Good book for beginner to intermediate use or mechanic. Interested in learning some tricks it's useful in not going into anything too hard

Great tips and tricks for twin cam engines
Good usable "How-To" data for the home bound mechanic who either cannot afford to pay the shop rate, or (like myself), would simply rather do it yourself. Good methods of approach with suggestions regarding additional side jobs that could be best completed at the same time and in the same stroke. It fills in the gaps that the factory manuals normally do not cover and applies a good deal of simple common sense.
