I had the previous publication again and rushed to buy this version which was released in June 2010. This is a perfect book for those who have already been to Paris and are looking more for all Paris' hidden secrets. My friends loved it too!

This book is fantastic--pair it with a good map of the city for everything you need to have a great trip.

This guidebook beat out my two usual go to guidebook series, Luxe and Wallpaper, for finding cute places to eat and shop in Paris for the simple fact that it listed a lot of places that were actually affordable to mere mortals. The pictures in the book are great and I love how it gives recommendations on what are the specialties of that restaurant or store. My friend and I had a great experience going to a restaurant, Le Rubis, that we found through the book when we were looking for a place to eat close to the Tuilleries. When we entered, it looked like just a bar. The bartender saw us looking confused, asked if we wanted to have lunch, and opened a tiny door that led to a narrow staircase and then through the kitchen to a tiny dining room. It was not the type of place you would find in any other guidebook. Not surprisingly, we were the only tourists there, the menus were written on chalkboards, and the waitress only spoke French (luckily my friend and I know a little French). The food at this place was homey (sausages, mashed potatoes, and chocolate mousse), but it was out of this world delicious! There is no way we would have gone to this place without this book and it was the highlight of our Paris experience. A friend who lives in Paris was so impressed with the story of our find that she insisted on taking my copy when I left. Because of my good experience with the Paris guide, I bought the Chicago guide so I could learn about all the good places that I might have overlooked in my own city.

I'm in Paris right now and brought this book out to help guide today's dining. The maps in this book are HORRIBLE. The order in the book is also HORRIBLE and there's a big gap in content around the Notre Damn area, that or everything in the area sucks.

Either way, I've navigated other countries with a good map all over the world.the maps in this book are SO bad you have to leverage another map and even then keep an eye out. The scale is also off, after tracking down two places for lunch and dinner, officially gave up on the dessert location didn't have it in me to hunt down yet another crapily marked location on the map.

Get another book unless you enjoy hunting down locations/somewhat familiar with the areas. Food locations were okay, places found at random or based on local recommendations were consistently better.
